Evals to true: (leadership == followership)

John Maxwell, who writes a lot about the topic, says leadership is really simple. Leadership is followership — nothing more, nothing less.

I like it because it removes some of the mystery around leadership.

His formulation tells you nothing about good leadership (Hitler had a lot of followers, for example.), but it does tell you the first step.

Everything else, like inclusiveness, safety, effectivness, results, and so on come after you have followers.

So for this weekend, ask yourself this question: do you actually have followers in your role as a tech lead? For now, it doesn’t matter who they are, how you got them, if you’re doing a good job, or anything else.

Just ask yourself that one question. And let me know what you find out!

Have a great weekend!!
